Cordless Phone Batteries

The advent of the cordless phone made it possible for users to enjoy the freedom of movement while on the phone.  Batteries power cordless phone handsets, and sometimes those batteries are going to run out.  To ensure this happens as infrequently as possible, it’s important to select the right battery for your cordless phone system.

Older phones usually are powered by a NiCad (or nickel cadmium) style of battery.  NiCad batteries develop a memory, so over time, the charge life gets shorter and shorter.

If your phone is of the newer vintage, you’ll probably find the battery is NiMH (nickel-metal hydride).  These batteries don’t have the same limitations as do the NiCad, and are generally considered to be better for the environment.

Check the battery in your phone, or your phone documentation to determine what type of battery your phone uses.  You might consider buying a new cordless phone if you are using the old NiCad battery.

You can buy replacement batteries on the manufacturer’s website, or on one of the many online battery vendors.  Don’t be afraid to buy an off-brand battery, as they usually work just as well as the more expensive name brands.

To get the best battery life, let your handset battery discharge completely before recharging.  You can also purchase additional handsets, if available.
