When trying to select a cordless phone, it’s important to consider what frequency needed for the individual user. There are three frequencies cordless phones transmit upon: 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5.8 GHz. As the frequencies get higher, the user experiences clearer signal and a greater range between user and base station.
900 MHz phones are not as popular as they once were, with the availability of higher frequencies. 900 MHz, even if they’ve been around a long time, are low-priced and also function well in most homes.
2.4 GHz models are commonly found, and users find that sound quality is better than the 900 MHz models. Additionally, one can move further away from the base station with the 2.4 GHz. 5.8 GHz units offer top of the line sound, limited interference, and increased security. 5.8 GHz phones allow for much greater range than 900 MHz models, up to 20 times, and it is at least twice the range of 2.4 GHz. Naturally, these units end up being the costliest.
